Update Journal

September 6th, 2007

09:55 pm - Hey all: PLEASE READ.
I haven't been on here in ages, been getting my life together and such. Short update, I'm back in school, I scored two awesome roommates and will be moving north of Seattle within the month. I'm also doing a lot better emotionally ... the drugs really DO work (eat my ass Tom Cruise)! And a lovingly attentive councilor also helps. Go my team.

Anyway, it's obvious I don't visit this place too often anymore, I just don't really have the time for it, or the interest quite frankly. That said, my LJ will remain dormant (I've decided not to delete it, since I do still read your LJs and have a lot of great friends here.

However, if you'd like to keep in touch with me (and see what I look like), you can always check out my MySpace. Yes, after YEARS of fighting it, I finally gave in to The Man. Anyhoo, the addy is: http://www.myspace.com/obnoxious_ninja

Much love to you all, take it easy, and remember: There is no spoon.

Have been without my pooter for the last two weeks while we did some work on the house (gardening, new paint job on the house, new carpeting, more fucking Spring cleaning than you can shake a stick at, etc etc) -- goddamn, we finished this morning and I still can't feel my hands. The blisters, how they sting =( Still, shit got done ... so good times all around.

Babysat Bri's new puppy for the last week, a really sweet 12 week old Boston terrier/pug mix named Rocco. He fits in both my hands, he's a little cock-eyed, and the tip of his tongue always hangs out (he totally looks like Gir from Invader Zim ... hee). A box of assorted cuteness, is teh Rocco.

Now, off I go to troll around Craig's List and find my ass a job. I've got apps at about a dozen places and I'm getting ansty. Hopefully something will turn up soon ... for the love of all things holy, please don't make me resort to K-Mart. Again. Sigh.

06:27 pm - God, I love my friends.
My old pal Ben stopped by out of the blue today to wish me a happy birthday (technically tomorrow), and I haven't seen him in a good long while and it was the nicest surprise I've recieved in a while. We chatted for a bit before he presented me with *squee* the reprint of The Crow graphic novel. It's one of the only vigilante-themed things I like and I think I scared Ben with my scream of geek-tastic joy.

Behold: the awesome. )

04:36 pm - New Lost tonight
Dear ABC:

I'm thrilled that you're focusing on previously neglected characters and Claire's POV is long overdue. Please let me enjoy this hour, lest I wish you a long and painful ravaging by rabid goats. With Bon Jovi playing in the background. In hell.

For the love of all things holy, don't let this one suck.

Love, me.

Still, the premise of tonight's ep sounds very cool and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Spoilers for Par Avion )

02:55 am - Jason Mewes love = rekindeled
This animation was originally posted at [info]boyskissing by [info]_____faraway and I had to share.

This is from the blooper reel of Clerks 2, during a scene in which a character gets drunk and tries to kiss Jay. Jason sneaks a smooch in one take, and my fangirlie heart squees with glee at the very sight.

Screencaps, along with the original post, are found here.

Hee. )

05:11 pm - Warring In-Laws. Good times.
Bri and Tony finally decided to tie the knot this summer, some time around July. They've been together for four years so at this point, it's just about making it official. I'm just happy that my sis found herself a good man, and Tony's incredibly good to her. I couldn't be happier for them.

On that note, my mother's psychotic (and I say this lovingly). The moment Bri said "We've decided on a date!", mom's been plotting everything from the food to the reception to the sorts of suits and dresses we have to wear and so on. Bri and Tony want a civil ceremony and a small reception; if it were up to mom, she'd go East and book St. Patrick's. Bri and Tony are thinking of making the reception a potluck affair; Mom thinks that's tacky and wants to cook all the food herself. Dad and I managed to convince her to sit down with Tony's parents and getting the major details out of the way ... so right now it's mom and Tony's mom arguing over ham and streamers, Bri and Tony are playing mediator (so far, not a lot of yelling so that's a good sign), and our dads are smoking in the backyard and discussing American Idol and that "gay boy" from Federal Way. Heh.

Me, I'm just going along with whatever happens. As long as I don't have to wear seafoam.

09:30 pm - Meme
Music meme: Leave a comment, I'll give you a letter, and you list your top seven songs that start with that letter.

The lovely [info]halfdutch gave me an H.

Also, these aren't actually my top seven but they're songs I enjoy for various reasons, just the same =)

1) Hash Pipe - Weezer. They totally OWN geek!rock, period. It's just a fun song to sing along to at the top of your lungs when you're sure no one can hear you, LOL

2) Hurt - Johnny Cash. The song that reintroduced me to the awesomeness that was and still is The Man In Black. Enough said.

3) Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright. I love Leonard Cohen's original version of this song, but Rufus just gives it something wistful and sad, so beautiful. Yep, love me some Rufus.

4) Hi-Lili Hi-Lo - Bobby Goldsboro. I remember first hearing this particular song in the movie Lili with Leslie Caron when I was a kid and I've always loved it. It's a very sweet little song, almost a lullaby. Here's a sample of the lyric: "A song of love is a song of woe, don't ask me how I know."

5) Humming - Portishead. I don't think these guys have ever made a song I haven't loved. Their music is equal parts dreamy, surreal, and downright sensual, and that's certainly true of this particular song.

6) Hechicera - Maná. A Mexican rock band that I adore, this is the song that turned me on to them. The title means, roughly, "Bewitching Woman." It's definitely a head-bobber, even if you don't understand the words.

7) Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me - U2. Not my favorite U2 song by far, but it's one that I always love listening to. I remember really liking the music video for it (the song was featured on the Batman Forever soundtrack, I think), plus hey ... it's freaking U2!

BTW, I just wann say I'm so glad I didn't have to include Lionel Richie's "Hello" in this list. Thiiiis close, man. Whew!

Under the cut for gripe-age )

Dear Hollywood:

Please stop casting UK actors in Mediterranean roles. No matter how sexy their accents are. At least this is better than the time you cast Gerard Butler as Attila the fucking HUN. Sigh.

09:02 am - Ode to my little Tank of Love.
Saturday, Papa and I took our dog Amaya to the vet's clinic because her behavior had been really erratic for the last month or so and we were worried. She'd lost about ten pounds, she was vomiting every other day, she couldn't keep food down except for soup, she kept peeing in the house, she slept about 20 hours a day, and she'd taken to staring blankly at the wall without moving. She's twelve years old, so we're thinking "Hey, it's probably just doggie dementia, not much else."

After a few tests, the doctor told us that it was a lot worse than any of that -- Amaya had sever anemnia and only had about 1/4 of her red blood cells left, there was a tumor growing in her spine, and another bleeding tumor in her stomach. Because of the anemnia, there was a shortage of oxygen to her brain, which accounts of the strange behavior. Basically, we were given the option of having her operated on (which would cost around 3 grand and there would be a 90% chance that she'd die on the table), or having her put to sleep. It was a huge shock for us; we were expecting a prescription or something, not being told that our dog was in so much pain that she needed to be put down. We had no idea that it was that bad, or that Amaya was in so much pain all that time.

My papa's a very reserved guy, and I don't remember ever seeing him really break down. When the doc told him that putting his baby to sleep was the best option all around, I could almost see his heart break. In the end, that's what we decided on, and Papa went with her so she wouldn't be alone. He told me later that she'd given him kisses on his nose and snuggled in his arms before the needle came home. It was over quick, no longer than ten seconds. She passed away in Papa's arms, and he stayed with her for about fifteen minutes, sobbing into her fur (his words). We haven't had the heart to pack up her things (food dishes, doggie bed, etc), and the house feels incredibly lonely now that she's not here. We're talking about possibly getting another dog in the next few months, though not too soon. Amaya was the greatest dog in the world, loving and loyal and a great big ball of love for all.

Some things I'll miss most:

1) How she curled at my feet anytime I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Futurama.

2) The time she got stuck in a tree 6 feet off the ground because she was trying to catch a squirrel (hee)

3) Snuggling on the couch with Papa while watching his old movies.

4) The sound of her snoring.

5) Her waiting at the kitchen door when she knew it was time to eat.

6) How she'd go bat-shit crazy when a motorcycle zoomed by.

7) How she's eat anything except bananas and anything Papa cooked from scratch (again, hee)

8) Her always seeming to know when I was feeling sad and how she's sit at my feet and let me pet her ears.

In short: I miss my dog.

12:24 pm - Fa la laaa...
Just saw the closing matinee of our school's production of The Laramie Project, which was excellent.

Am now suffering heartburn thanks to overcooked pasta (nasty and over-priced ... if only I had me some change for a Tums.)

I also (finally) got to watch the latest episode of Heroes, and dang it if I wasn't all sniffly by ep's end. I won't go into a lot of detail for those who have seen it or don't watch, but I loved how HRG's backstory was referenced at last and how it also served to tie up a lot of loose ends in regards to the character. It also leaves a bunch of new questions unanswered, but I'm excited to see how it plays out. Plus I'm really beginning to love The Haitian (dude really needs a name) and I wanna see Claire reunited with her uncle (!)
